Week in Review: Paul Ryan Visits Miami University, Vows “We Will Not Duck the Tough Issues. We Will Lead”
November’s election will offer a clear choice between President Obama’s failed economic policies and a pro-growth GOP agenda, Republican Vice Presidential Candidate and Miami University graduate Paul Ryan said this past Wednesday at a homecoming rally for the Romney-Ryan ticket in Oxford. “We will not duck the tough issues,” Congressman Ryan said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “We will lead.” More coverage of Ryan’s visit is included below:

RYAN: MILLIONS OF AMERICANS – ESPECIALLY RECENT GRADUATES – ARE HURTING IN THE OBAMA ECONOMY:
“’This economy’s really bad for young Americans,’ Ryan said. ‘Half of all college graduates are either working in jobs that they didn’t train for or are not working at all. Half! And they’re wallowing in debt, with ever-higher rising tuition.’” (Washington Post, 8/16/12)
RYAN WELCOMES DEBATE ON FUTURE OF MEDICARE, CRITICIZES DEMOCRATS’ DECISION TO CUT $716 BILLION FROM THE PROGRAM TO PAY FOR UNPOPULAR OBAMACARE LAW:
“‘The president’s campaign says this raid of Medicare to pay for ObamaCare, which leads to fewer services for current seniors, is an achievement,’ Ryan said. ‘Do you think raiding Medicare to pay for ObamaCare is an achievement?’ ‘No!’ yelled the crowd at the Miami University Engineering Quad, which was a mix of students and older supporters. ‘Well, neither do I. ... It’s not right. He knows it. He can’t defend it,’ Ryan said.” (Washington Post, 8/16/12)
RYAN DESCRIBES HIS TIME AT MIAMI AS “FORMATIVE,” SAYS HE LIKES HIS SKYLINE 5-WAY:
“I spent a lot of my formative years here. I like my Skyline 5-way, turkey gobblers, cheese fries at Skippers, Bagel and Deli is still here for sure, right?” (WXVU-Cincinnati, 8/16/12)
RYAN UNDERSCORES IMPORTANCE OF OHIO; SAYS THIS ELECTION WILL SHAPE FUTURE GENERATIONS:
"’Ohio is so important,’ Ryan told the crowd who turned out for his homecoming visit to Miami University. ‘You know this. You're used to it. The Buckeye State could very well determine the future of our country for a long time.… This is the kind of election that shapes generations.’” (American Spectator, 8/16/12)
